Rosie was saved from slaughter by a fellow sanctuary here in Florida. The sanctuary rescues and helps relocate animals and we were happy to bring her to live at Little Bear Sanctuary. Rosie was friendly and loving from the day she arrived. She gave birth to 10 of the cutest piglets you’ve ever seen. Pigs are one of the most intelligent animals on the planet. Rosie sang to her babies while they were nursing, always made sure they were safe and was an all-around incredible mom. It was an amazing experience for everyone at the sanctuary.
Our herd of sheep were rescued from a hoarding case in Louisiana. All the females arrived pregnant and gave birth at the sanctuary a few months later. We went from 20 to 35 sheep almost overnight! The sheep moms took amazing care of their babies. Like all moms that arrive at Little Bear, they will always remain together. The kids would run around playing sheep games and they are still a close group to this day. This breed of sheep are Barbados Black Belly which is not a wool sheep; they automatically shed their hair yearly.
Sparkles was part of the Florida FFA program here in town. The family’s youngest daughter did not want Sparkles to go to slaughter. When they reached out to us, we were happy to take her along with her stall mate Black Beauty. Before her arrival Sparkles gave birth to a beautiful boy named Smoke who eventually went to another farm. About a year after we rescued Sparkles, we were able to reunite her with her baby Smoke! Cows are extremely intelligent, have best friends, and an amazing memory. Sparkles and Smoke immediately recognized each other. Check out the amazing reunion video above.
